10,000 steps a day...do they really work?

Too much sitting these days has increased the rate of health disease. People tend to sit on a place for hours and then eat their meals without any activity. Scientist have found in their studies that those who exercise regularly have lowered the risk of heart diseases. You have probably heard that one must go for 10,000 steps daily. for weight loss and fitness. Let's see how it works.


First determine how much weight you want to lose? Then do some calculations in terms of calories intake. A perfect workout plan works in both ways like do 30 minutes workout and then count your steps towards the goal of 10,000 footsteps for the entire day.

30 minutes exercise is not enough if someone want to lose a lot. A brisk amount of walking can help you to get toned muscles, increased energy and reduced stress. 10,000 steps a day can reduce about 400 calories a day and 12,000 calories in a month of 30 days. But if you want to get good results in an early period you have to reduce your calorie intake too. Also you can add strength exercise in your 30 minutes workout so that you will reach towards your goal in a short time.

Add steps in your daily activity. If you are a busy person and don't have much time to join a gym or walk then you start with 3,000-4,000 steps. Adding 3000-4000 steps can reduce about 110-150 calories per day. You can install some step-counter apps in your phone and can buy fitness bands (if you are rich enough). Walking reduce the high risk of blood pressure. and increase self esteem. 75 minutes of walking can add 2 years to your life, 40 minutes of walking protects the brain's memory, 30 minutes a day can reduce depression by 35%, 60 minutes of walk can transform an obese person to a fit person.
